The Zig Zag Railway is owned and operated by the members of the Zig Zag Co-op Ltd. If you want to support the railway and help run it you are invited to become a Member. Most of the people who work on the railway are volunteers, they volunteer because they enjoy it.

All monies the railway receives, is ploughed back into keeping it going and improving visitor facilities.

Becoming a member indicates a desire and willingness to participate in the operation of ZZR in such roles as Driver, Fireman, Guard, Guide, Stationmaster or Signalman. There are also jobs in Track Maintenance, and Mechanical and Civil Engineering.
Where required ZZR provides training courses for accreditation under the Rail Safety Act.

Other activities include selling Tickets, Souvenirs or Refreshments, producing the magazine 'Switchback' and newsletter and there are always opportunities in Administration. Working members can stay on site in historic carriages.

Members receive the magazine 'Switchback' and occasional newsletters which keep working members up to date with day to day activities and changes in procedures.

Membership is annual and includes a free ride on the Railway during the year, on production of the membership card. Adult members have the right to vote at the AGM to elect directors. Each adult member has one vote regardless how many shares the member owns.

All membership applications are subject to approval by the Board under the Rules of the Co-op.
